My Story

"Connection is why we're here. It's what gives purpose and meaning to our lives." - Brene Brown

Birth Doula, Childbirth Educator, Bringing Baby Home Educator, Jackson, MS

How I Became a Doula

Hello Baby Birth Services was founded two years after my own traumatic birth. It was born of my passion to help other women avoid what I had been through. However, it has evolved into a way to support women and their families before, during, and after birth. I now see it as a way to meet the growing need for birth, postpartum, and community support in the Jackson, MS metro area. This support is a foundation upon which you can build the village it requires to nurture, meet, guide, and enjoy your growing family.

My Doula Philosophy

Pregnancy matters.

As a doula, I help my clients understand and navigate their choices during pregnancy including nutrition, exercise, education, encouragement, and preparation.

Mom’s birth experience matters.

A woman’s memories of her birth experiences last a lifetime and can have powerful effects on her self-esteem and confidence. It is now widely recognized that choosing to add a doula to one’s birth team can yield many positive benefits for mom, dad, and baby. Read more about the evidence on doulas over on one of my favorite resources, Evidence Based Birth.

Baby’s birth experience matters.

The way your baby begins his or her role as a child and the way you begin your role as parents impacts your futures because it impacts your connections.

Family connection matters.

It is my belief we are put on this earth to learn how to love and connect with one another while navigating the differences we possess. The reason I chose this job was because birth was a pivotal moment in my life and I knew it was for other women too. Now, I stay in this line of work because I hope that listening to families, educating them, and encouraging them will help them get off on the right foot, whatever that looks like for the individual family.

The Rest of the Story

I am mom to the coolest and funniest 3 year old boy and the sweetest french bulldog on the planet. Okay, okay, yes, I’m partial. The other guy I’m partial to is the one I married. He’s a pretty amazing, handsome, and loving man.

When I’m not working, which is rare, I enjoy gardening, tending to my fish tanks, and sewing. I also absolutely adore my mom friends and spend lots of time with them and their littles. Community is a huge part of my life which makes me so grateful for my tribe.

My husband, an LPC at The Shepherd’s Staff, and I are certified to teach the Gottman-developed Bringing Baby Home Workshops. We will roll out our first workshop in Winter 2019 after we have finalized our curriculum.
